Dear Colleagues,

As the anniversary of 9-11 approaches our nation is called upon to recall this tragedy and reflect on the event, the lives that were lost and the impact on our nation as a result of this terrible act of violence. Each school community may have its own way of remembering this event and engaging in instruction around this topic for various grade levels. As a reminder, Chapter 248 of the Laws of 2019 (S.4166A/A.1801B) established September 11th Remembrance Day. This law requires a brief moment of silence occur in public schools across the state at the beginning of the school day every September 11th to encourage dialogue and education in the classroom, and to ensure future generations have an understanding of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks and their place in history. Please accept this reminder to schedule this moment of silence again in your high school buildings (Grades 9-12) this Friday September 11, 2020.

Thank you.
