Region 2
Welcome from Region 2
Regional Association of Supervisors and Administrators (RASA).
Region 2 (RASA) encompasses Westchester and Putnam counties. There are 38 affiliated units within these two counties. The high percentage of districts that are members speaks to the successful relationship that has been forged between these units and RASA. Much of the credit for this longstanding affiliation goes to John Sullivan, retired past president of ESSAA, whose vision for this administrators' association and tireless efforts over the years has brought about a high degree of confidence in and loyalty to the association among our members.
John was assisted in this pioneering effort by the present RASA attorney, Robert Saperstein. Bob's successful litigation of cases on behalf of RASA members against districts is legendary in the area. Likewise, his skillful negotiations have brought about ground-breaking contract settlements for our units. Bob's many years of experience are one of our greatest assets as an organization and his quick, personal responsiveness to members is one of his trademarks. In the increasingly uncertain and unsettled education environment in which we find ourselves these days, it is reassuring to know that our legal advice is the very best that can be sought.
Beyond these two individuals, however, the strength of RASA lies in the extensive network of members. Because so many districts belong to RASA, there are strong connections between and among districts that enables us to share information about issues and especially about the state of negotiations. This communication is extremely valuable now when contract negotiations are so difficult and contentious or when we need to respond quickly to developments in Albany. My representation of ESSAA on the Regents Task Force has been invaluable to our organization, as frustrating as it has been . We will continue to be a voice for the profession, for the important role of administrators and for the mission of public education.
